Team Heat Fall Schedule and Information:Team Heat will be comprised of High School players from Charlotte, Matthews, and surrounding areas. Team Heat will play in competitive, collegiate recruiting tournaments during the Summer and Fall seasons. Team Heat will be entering a tournament in Jacksonville, FL and Charlotte, NC for the 2010 fall season. The tournaments we will enter will have some of the best competition as well as some of the best collegiate coaches scouting for players from divisions 1, 2, and 3.
We realize that during the fall season players are involved in school and other activities, so practices will be limited to one time a week. We will look to play our first tournament this year in October at Jacksonville, Florida. The second tournament will be in Charlotte, NC at the end of October. Open Evaluations: We will hold an open evaluation for the Fall team on Sunday, August 29th from 3:30-4:30PM. You MUST pre-register for the Evaluation online here. Costs: The team costs will be $350. Costs will include experienced coaching from former and current NCAA players and coaches, game jersey and shorts, a practice jersey, a shooting shirt, a sweatshirt, and field rentals for practice. **Tournament Fees will not be included in the initial cost. The Jacksonville tournament fees will be $50 and the Charlotte tournament fees will be $85** Practices: We will practice 2x a week, for five weeks, leading up to our tournament in October. Practices will run on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30PM and Sunday evenings from 5:30-7PM, September 8 through October 6. All Wednesday practices will be held at The McAlpine Business Park Fields, 8300 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212. All Sunday practices will be held at MARA's Arthur Goodman Park, 1200 S. Trade St, Matthews, NC 28105. Fall Tournaments: We will be attending a Fall Benefit tournament in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, October 9th and Sunday, October 10th. The tournament is to benefit the Pediatric Palliative and Hospice program for children with life-limiting and life threatening conditions. The tournament will be full field 10v10 format, with two 25 minute running halves. Each team will be guaranteed 4 games and a play-off game (3 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday) plus single elimination play-offs on Sunday. The fall tournament will be held at 4387 Lakeshore Drive, Orange Park, FL 32003. The second tournament we will be attending is the Charlotte Fall Classic. This tournament will take place on Saturday, October 30th and Sunday, October 31st. The tournament will be full field 10v10 format, with four 12 minute running quarters. Each team will be guaranteed 5 games (3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday) plus a Championship bracket on Sunday. The fall tournament will be held at Elon Fields, 11401 Ardrey Kell Rd., Charlotte, NC 28277. Register for the Fall Evaluations for Team Heat Coaching Staff: Offense: Rob Horrigan will be directing the offense for Team Heat. Rob has years of experience playing some of the most competitive youth and high school lacrosse growing up in Severna Park, MD. He went on to play D-I, graduating from Towson University. After graduation Rob became one of the youngest head coaches in D-III history when he started York College's program. He then made the move to Belmont Abbey to start their D-II program and become the 2006 "Deep South Conference Coach of the year". Midfielders: Randy Jones will be in charge of the midfield play, as well as assisting with the offensive strategy. Randy grew up playing lacrosse in Bel Air, MD. He joined Queens University's program during its second year and immediately made an impact; receiving both the Most Improved Player and Coaches Award within his first two years. Randy was then the Team Captain for his final two seasons at Queens. Currently Randy is a graduate assistant at Queens University, pursuing his MBA through Queens' McColl School of Business. Defense: Luke Kannor will be in charge of the defense. Luke started his lacrosse career in Yarmouth, ME playing middle school and Freshman year of high school there before moving to Idaho. He joined the first recruiting class Division II Queens University ever had. Within four years at Queens he had made his impact as a starter, helping take Queens to the CVAC Championship and finishing first place twice in the regular season. Since graduation Luke has been working with Turn and Burn trying to help grow lacrosse in the Charlotte area.
Player Requirements:We are looking for 24 High School players who are serious about lacrosse and looking to pursue a college career somewhere. We encourage players to make every practice we have leading up to the tournament so that they know the formations and plays we want to run. We will also have a player contract to fill out for any over-night trips.
